How to Track QR Code Scans
How does a QR code tracker work?
A QR code encodes a URL. When that URL is a tracked short link, opening it records a visit before sending the visitor to the destination. The tracker measures opened links, not camera activity or every scan that never opens a page.
Set up a trackable QR campaign
- Create a link to your menu, product page, booking form, or offer.
- Name the campaign and placement clearly.
- Generate the QR code for that short link.
- Test a printed sample on multiple phones.
- Review the link's analytics after distribution.
Separate each placement
Use different short links for the shop counter, delivery packaging, event flyer, and magazine advert. Each QR then identifies its placement. Reusing one QR everywhere makes placement attribution impossible even if the total visits are accurate.
Make the print easy to scan
Leave a clear margin around the code, use strong contrast, and test the final physical size. Do not place it on folds or reflective material. Put a concise offer next to it so the visitor knows where the code leads.
Interpret results carefully
Repeated visits are not necessarily different customers. A visitor can open the link several times or forward it to someone else. Track lead submissions or confirmed orders separately and use consistent reporting periods.
Keep printed campaigns useful
An editable short-link destination lets you update the offer without changing the printed code. Check destination health before and during the campaign. Read about scratch card marketing for interactive offers or explore QR features.
